Thankful Thursday

Lynn is hosting this weeks Thankful Thursday. The theme? Things that make you go hmmm. You can read other Thankful Thursday posts too. Here's mine.

We began back when the kids were younger, telling a daily Bible story along with our homechool. Our first lessons were of course on creation. The story eventually turned to Adam and Eve and the story of their life in the Garden. Then ultimately the temptation and all the curses that sin brings including death. As I discussed this with my daughter she had many questions concerning why they did it. We talked of different reasons and possibilities. That actually kind of made me go hmmmm. Why did they?
Somewhere along the studying of these lessons I realized that it was actually because they didn't trust God. He was on their side and they didn't believe it.
Consider what happened. God "commanded" or said, Don't eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Why? "for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."Genesis 2 :17 He told them they would die. Then Genesis 3:4 says.... And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die,
Two opposite messages. They had the option of trusting God's word or the serpents. We know what happened, they believed the serpent.
So God started immediately to fix things. He put them out of the garden and placed an angel there "to keep the way of the tree of life"Genesis 3:24 I believe that wasn't just for punishment, but so they wouldn't eat of the tree of life, and be "stuck" in eternal separation from him.
He then began to send them children to carry on when they were gone, and to ultimately bring about his great plan of salvation through the birth of Jesus.
Now my question concerning this whole thing is, Could this be why we're here on this earth, to learn to "trust Gods word" even in extreme circumstances? It seems to me that we go through so many different experiences in life where we are faced with the choice to trust either Gods word or the serpents so to speak. None of us know what will happen tomorrow so we just have to trust God.
I picture a laboratory, if you will, with controlled variables, and the master at work constantly raising the temperature here, mixing in something there to bring about the desired results. Nothing in life stays the same ever. There's always something that happens or can happen that changes our situations. Letting us know daily that there is no constant, but his word.
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. Trust him. If he warns against it, then it's for your good, If he says do it, then you'll benefit greatly from obeying. Let's trust him no matter how we feel, what the report is, or how we're tempted to doubt. I believe, Lord help thou my unbelief. Help us to trust what you say.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 says, Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Let us do what we're here to do and fullfil our destiny. Let us trust God and believe His word, and obey it. He's on our side.

  1. Great post today!

Sometimes we get too worried about the big picture when really we just need to focus on our obedience and let God direct our steps. He is faithful and we can trust him! We don't have to constantly be striving to make things turn out how we want.
